Hip Pain

Hip pain

Pain in the front, side or back of the hip is common and can be associated or caused by a large variety of problems. Pain in the front of the hip is often caused by the hip joint itself if it is stiff or degenerated. Pain on the side of the hip is usually from overused soft tissues, and often radiates all the way down the thigh to the knee. Bursitis on the side of the hip causes focal pain in one spot that often comes on after an injury where the side of the hip receives an impact of some kind. Finally, pressure on a nerve in the lower back can cause pain to radiate through these areas.
